Degradation of Polyethersulfone in Homogeneous System by Gamma-Ray Irradiation

摘要The gamma-ray irradiation-induced degradation of poly(ether sulfone) (PES) in a homogeneous system has been studied. By dissolving the polymer in different organic solvents, the degradation effect of gamma-ray irradiation on PES increases significantly except for dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO). This phenomenon is supported by the experimental results of GPC. The enhancement effect of a homogeneous system is explained by increased gamma-ray irradiation energy harvesting capacity due to the presence of organic solvent molecules.
